IF YOU WERE TO MEET JOVIAL NEWTON LUU AT A TRADE
show, you'd never imagine the story behind his success. His
path involves opening a few salons on the way to becoming a
manufacturer—which isn't necessarily out of the ordinary. The
circumstances that led up to his successes, however, certainly
are not ordinary.
While in his teens, Luu made a harrowing escape from Vietnam
and spent seven months in a refugee camp that eventually led
him to the United States. Just over 10 years later, he used credit
cards to open his first salon while still in college and began his
path toward a new life in the beauty industry.
Recently, Luu sat down with Beauty Store Business to share
his journey to America, what inspired him to join the industry,
his nailcare company and why beauty innovation continues to
excite him.
