Here are the statistics from the 2012 show (the 45th edition)—a spectacular four-day event last March. • 175,703 attendees • More than 40,000 non-Italian attendees • 2,320 exhibitors who came from more than 70 countries • Non-Italian exhibitors increased 5% compared to the year before • Five new country pavilions: California (yes, the U.S. state—and more on this later), Brazil, The Netherlands, Mexico and Romania; in all, 20 country pavilions • More than 46,500 online presale tickets were sold at cosmoprof.it • That website also saw 652,508 hits— with the most from the United States, France and England • More than 600 journalists were accredited by the show's press office company's positive competitive spirit," adds Campagnoli. "And starting the event on a day dedicated to honoring women [March 8, International Women's Day] is also a good message from an industry heavily focused on female beauty," he states. "Moreover, the earlier opening of Cosmopack will allow exhibitors the opportunity to enjoy a higher visibility supported by the attendance of international buyers and press." Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna 2012 drew nearly 176,000 attendees. • Hair Ring: A selection of the best talents chosen by the Camera Italiana dell'Acconciatura (Italian Chamber of Hairdressing) exhibiting in its own dedicated space where cutting-edge fashion trends and looks will be center stage • Extraordinary Gallery: The return of the sophisticated multisensory space dedicated to niche products: exclusive beauty products, cutting-edge raw materials, fashion and design, unique items of jewelry and luxury food (with the concept of all-round beauty) NEW DATES The initial dates for the 2013 show—and promoted at last year's event—were March 15-18. Later, SoGeCos—a company of BolognaFiere, organizer of Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna and a partner in Cosmoprof North America (July 14-16, Las Vegas, cosmoprofnorthamerica.com) as well as Cosmoprof Asia (Nov. 13-15, Hong Kong, cosmoprof-asia.com)—decided to change dates to allow a better coordination with the international beauty events calendar. Also, Cosmopack—an exhibition alongside Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna, dedicated to packaging—will open and close one day earlier than Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna: March 7-10. It's best to think of it as a "show within the show" for packaging, machinery, contract manufacturing and private labeling. (More on Cosmopack later.) "We felt that these dates are more conducive to promoting a better cooperation of Cosmoprof [Worldwide Bologna] and the international events calendar," says Duccio Campagnoli, president of BolognaFiere and SoGeCos. SoGeCos is 100% owned by BolognaFiere. "We are confident that the decision to move the event date will be positive for the entire world of beauty, relieving the stress of companies being forced to choose one event over another due to timing overlap, as well as showing our Esthetiring is the place to see massage techniques from around the world. Planning for the upcoming Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna was done with input and proactive support from UNIPRO (The Association for the Italian Beauty Industry) with the primary focus of reinforcing the business-to-business element, focusing on buyer-program initiatives—such as the International Buyer Program (including the United States)—and revamping the layout of the show. NEW SHOW LAYOUT All sectors of the beauty industry are represented in the five areas of Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna: perfumery and cosmetics; spa and beauty; natural products; hair; and nails. This year's new layout of the show was devised to reflect new market trends and create an improved experience by using the two main entrances: Costituzione and Michelino. Show officials say that exhibitors in the spa and beauty, hair and nails sectors will benefit from it; and it should offer visitors "a more fluid, organic and focused experience." 46 February 2013 | beautystorebusiness.com NEW IDEAS SHOWCASED Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna includes numerous off-the-show-floor events.
