The following is a list of the most powerful interview questions. Certainly, there are the typical ones, such as ÒTell me about yourself,Ó ÒWhat is your greatest strength?,Ó ÒWhat is your greatest weakness?Ó and so forth; but here are 50 that go beyond these ubiquitous questions. They solicit thoughtful responses or put the applicant in a scenario that asks him to describe what he would do in a given situation. The ideal answers to these questions arenÕt as important as how the candidates respond. What youÕre typically looking for is a personÕs thought process. Therefore, whatever answer you receive, you can always follow up with ÒWhy do you think that?Ó or ÒWhat makes you say that?Ó This will provide you with some clue about the individualÕs views of the world and his job. This in turn will give you an indication of how he might perform at your store. 5. How do you prefer to be managed by your supervisor? 6. Why did you (do you) want to leave your last (current) job? 7. Why should I hire you? 8. What do you know about our organization? 9. What challenges do you see in a job like this? 10. How do you define the words Òcustomer serviceÓ? 11. Tell me about your last job. What did you do on a day-to-day basis? 12. Describe a situation from your experience where you demonstrated leadership? 13. What experience do you have with merchandising or setting up retail displays? 14. When are you most productive? Mornings, afternoons, evenings? Why? 15. What frustrates you about other people? 16. There is not necessarily a right or wrong answer to the following questions, but there are certain responses that are better than others.
