ÒIt truly has been an extraordinary experience for me and my family to watch the Sport Clips Haircuts concept grow and evolve into a business opportunity that enables our Team Leaders [franchisees] to have a better lifestyle leading to financial independence and provides stylist careers for thousands,Ó says founder and CEO Gordon Logan. ÒWhen we first thought of developing the Sport Clips concept, we knew that the menÕs and boysÕ market would be our targetÑand the sports theme would be an integral part of it. ItÕs a business model we have fine-tuned through the years to ensure we provide the best business opportunity possible for our Team Leaders and the best MVP haircut experience for the clients we serve every day.Ó Logan told the National Huddle gathering of the companyÕs continued same-store sales success and its very bright future: ÒIt took Sport Clips 18 years to reach a billion dollars in cumulative sales, and we expect to reach our second billion next year in only 3.5 years.Ó In addition, Logan shared his memories of the companyÕs first National Huddle that was attended by just 35 people and compared it to the record National Huddle attendance of more than 2,000 franchisees, managers, area developers and support-team members at this yearÕs meeting. Founded in 1993 in Georgetown, Texas, by Logan with more than 1,000 stores now across the United States, Sport Clips Haircuts is: ¥ Expecting to open from 180 to 200 locations this year and reach 2,000 locations in five to six years. ¥ Now open in Canada. The first location opened in Burlington, Ontario, March 1. ¥ Experiencing a 9.1% same-store sale increase over last year. ¥ Well over the 102-million mark for haircuts provided to clients across the United States. ¥ Providing jobs for more than 10,000 with plans to add nearly 2,000 more jobs by the end of 2013. ¥ Making free phone calls home possible for deployed and hospitalized U.S. service members through its Help A Hero Program that benefits the Veterans of Foreign WarsÕ Operation UplinkÑwith more than 2 million calls provided to date. Highlights of the annual meeting also included guest speakers Marcus Luttrell, retired U.S. Navy SEAL and author of ÒLone Survivor,Ó and special appearances by Sport Clipssponsored Joe Gibbs RacingÕs NASCAR drivers Denny Hamlin and Elliott Sadler. Special recognition was given to the franchiseÕs Help A Hero campaign and its $500,000 donation in 2012 to help deployed and hospitalized U.S. service members call home at no cost through the VFWÕs Operation Uplink Free Call Days program. And Sport Clips Haircuts announced at the meeting its support of the Wounded Warriors Family Support organization and the High Five TourÑan annual 48-state road trip across the United States to raise awareness of the WWFS mission and funds to build custom-designed Òsmart homesÓ for two severely wounded veterans and their families. From June 17 through July 26, Sport Clips will collect donations in all its U.S. locations to support construction of the homes. WWFS will embark on the tour in a patriotically-wrapped 2013 Shelby Mustang GT500 in June, making stops at Sport Clips locations across the United States. After the tour, the car will be auctioned offÑwith all proceeds going to support WWFS.
