Not too long ago Beauty Store Busi- ness talked with Kirschner to find out the latest about the event and his campaign. Beauty Store Business: Please tell us about your journey to become this year's City of Hope Spirit of Life Award recipient. KIRSCHNER: I am so very honored and humbled to receive our industry's most prestigious award. This event will certainly be one of the highlights in my career and a milestone accomplishment. I have been the chairman for the City of Hope committee for many years, so I have been able to assist on campaigns in the past. City of Hope is such a great institu- tion, doing wonderful things to help enhance people's lives. The staggering statistic is that cancer affects one out of three men and two out of three women in their lifetimes. The reality is that someone we love and care about will fight cancer, and City of Hope will be there to help. I encourage everyone to learn more about the organization at cityofhope.org. What can attendees at this year's event expect? For our entertainment, we have contracted Michael Bolton (michaelbolton.com), who has received multiple GRAMMYs and six American Music Awards, and has sold more than 53 million albums [and singles worldwide]. He is one of the greatest entertainers of our era, and we are especially fortunate to hear him perform a concert with his entire band. We will also have [actress] Zoe Rainey open the dinner with the song "Proud To Be An American" along with the Wounded [Warrior Project] from the Marines, Air Force, Navy and Army presenting colors. We will have a spectacular dinner chosen and prepared by one of Las Vegas' top chefs, [Mandalay Bay executive chef] Susan Wolfla. Also, Miss America [2014 Nina Davuluri] will be [attending] to sign posters and take pictures with attendees. How about the silent auction? Our silent auction will have unique items donated by Antiquities [International], headquartered in the Forum Shops at Caesars [in Las Vegas], with exciting memorabilia from movies to sports. We have been honored to have vaca- tions, special guest dinners and many other auction items donated for the event. Bidding this year will be easy and done electronically through mobile phones. If someone outbids you on an item, you will know immediately and be able to rebid if you choose. All auction items will be shipped from the Mandalay Bay Business Center directly to the winning bidders after the auction is over. Another exciting part of the night will be the drawing for a MINI Cooper car graciously donated by Jinny Beauty Supply. Will you produce a City of Hope journal for the event? We have made changes to the journal to provide additional value for our advertisers.
