38 August 2016 | Makeup Musings sellers in Korea, we must not ignore the makeup products that have an air of whimsy and childlike packaging. Korean makeup products are packaged beauti- fully, brightly colored and compact in a way only they know how! The packaging style and product names are undeniably Korean and totally eye catching. For example Tony Moly "Petite Bunny Gloss Bar" (a lip gloss), Skinfood "Tomato Jelly Tint Lip" (a lip stain), Etude House "Dear Girls Cute Eyes Marker" (a liquid liner), if you think these names are catchy you should see the packaging! Some might say it is clever marketing and it is, but I have tried many of these products and they are truly impressive. THE PRODUCTS The biggest export in makeup from Korea is the eye category; brands from all over the globe rush look to Korean manufactures for long-lasting liquid lin- ers, mascara and unique mascara wands and applicators and eyeliner pencils. Besides eyes, I would say skin would be the largest category in makeup. Korean Beauty came onto the scene a few years ago with the welcomed arrival of BB creams. By you now you all know the history of the multipurpose, prim- ing, protecting and perfecting "magical tinted moisturizer" and of course have seen the influence this product has had on the beauty industry worldwide. We then moved onto cushion products, cushion foundation, bronzer, blush and highlighter. Companies like Smashbox, L'Oréal and Estée Lauder have embraced this cushion trend—a popular makeup packaging where the liquid formula is seeped into a cushion and applied with fingers or a sponge. So what's next? I think that primers are still going to be huge, moving away from traditional makeup primers and embracing new textures and ingredients. As far as textures go, I was lucky enough to try a new formula in the form of a jelly compact foundation, the product was slimy and jelly and applied like a gor- geous satin foundation, we will certainly be seeing many more "jelly" textured products to come. For skin care: highly concentrated treatments are making their way into the states, liquid topical Botox anyone? You can now purchase and apply at home what we normally have to see a doctor for! I am sure many women (and men) will be running out to get this! Now that we all want to run out and purchase these amazing products, where can we do so? With the raising awareness and curiosity for all things K Beauty, some new e-tailers and retailers have been popping up on the scene as well as some existing trend hunters who are embracing this trend. Of course Sephora has jumped on the band wagon and started selling some better known brands over the years such as AmorePacific and TonyMoly. Urban Outfitters has been bringing select cute K Beauty products to the millennials in their nicely curated beauty section. SOKO Glam is an online retailer of all things K beauty, from skin care to makeup and all the tools in between this e-tailer has products spanning all categories and in a variety of price points. Lastly we have Peach & Lily—a favorite of mine. Peach & Lily embodies the Korean beauty lover, as all products are "curated, tested and approved" by founder Alicia Yoon, The biggest export in makeup from Korea is the eye category.
