50 December 2014 | beautystorebusiness.com Previous executive-level events, often held over two days, combined dialogue with research and socializing and led to relationship building among today's industry leaders. It's time to help the next generation of business executives come together in the same way at a similar event to foster the types of business relationships on which many of today's powerhouses are built, states Sleeper. PBA's members have been asking for such an event, and the organization has listened. RESPECTED SPEAKERS & PARTICIPANTS The first-ever PBA Executive Summit will be held Dec. 4-5 at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia (omnihotels. c o m / h o t els/s c o t t s d ale - m o n t elu cia, 888.627.3010, 480.627.3200) in Scotts- dale, Arizona. The event is designed to provide senior leaders with the latest segmentation data, to better understand emerging consumer trends, to help them discover which products and categories are gaining sales momentum, and to offer networking and socializing oppor- tunities to help them get to know each other as individuals. "The two-day event will bring together executives from top beauty companies to learn from leading business experts on how expanding technology and social connections have transformed market- ing and communications in the beauty industry," notes Sleeper. The goal is to have attendees walk away with clear takeaways and direction—and this is not just a social event, according to Sleeper. "We tried to be respectful of everyone's busy schedule," comments Sleeper. "We don't want to take too much time, so we condensed a lot of material into a full day of learning and networking." The theme is "Consumer IQ," which will explore the trends that Gen Y and Millen- nials are responding to, investigate how good ideas come about, as well as detail the results of the PBA-sponsored market research that will help forecast trends that impact the beauty industry. Being able to develop business strategies based on these findings is the intended outcome for those in attendance. The moderator for the event is former CNN anchor and NBC correspondent Gene Randall. UNDERSTANDING OUR MARKET The summit will kick off on Thursday evening, Dec. 4, with registration and networking opportunities (a Welcome Reception, scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) designed to forge new connec- tions. Friday, Dec. 5, the focus shifts to education with presentations and discus- sions regarding the consumer mind-set and trends. Three featured speakers will lead the discussions, presenting infor- mation designed to foster discussion within the industry and, perhaps, alter current business strategy within partici- pating companies. The event opening on Dec. 5 is with the PBA and Randall. It's scheduled for a 9 a.m. start after breakfast and for 45 minutes. Carrie Mellage, vice president of con- sumer products at Kline & Co. (klinegroup. com) will present on Friday, sharing slices of data from the just-released second quarter 2014 to help attendees identify current trends in the professional category. Mellage is responsible for overall manage- ment of the consumer products practice, which includes beauty and personal-care research. She oversees all of Kline's con- sumer-related market-research programs in cosmetics and toiletries, salon hair care and professional skin care. She is frequently cited as a beauty industry expert in business, trade and consumer publications. She is speaking at the executive summit both to share Kline's latest research results for beauty industry participants and to www.MalibuC.com | 1.800.622.7332 PRESCRIPTIVE WELLNESS TREATMENTS HAIR SCALP SKIN 100% vegan gluten sulfates parabens propylene glycol DEA FREE OF: Normal & Dry Skin Hydrate Exfoliators Masques Tattoos wellness solutions wellness solutions wellness solutions Sensitive Skin Acne wellness solutions ink well wellness solutions ness solutions malibu C ® Color Hard Water Blondes Swimmers Hair Repair Scalp "There has been a void of industry thought leaders getting together," says Steve Sleeper.
