6 July 2014 | beautystorebusiness.com Survey these nine fi ne offerings presented at the 2014 ELEMENTs showcase in New York City. by Regina Molaro DIRECTLY FROM THE ELEMENTS SHOW FLOOR in Manhattan inside New York City is a lineup of niche products that are certainly worthy of the spotlight. The 7 th edition of the ELEMENTs showcase for pres- tige fragrances, beauty and design products was held at the ultra-chic Skylight West space from Feb. 4-6. The "scent-sational" event lured an engaged audience of approximately 3,000 attendees as well as 75 vendors. Despite a challenging week in New York City with blus- tery weather conditions compounded by the Super Bowl, industry insiders still ventured out to witness the latest and greatest niche offerings in fragrances, cosmetics, hair care, skin care, wellness and organics, men's grooming products, household care, jewelry and more. The highly curated trade show explored the Academy of Nature theme, which was comprised of PERFUME: fine fragrance; HOME: ambiance, house- hold care; MEN's: grooming, gear; APOTHECARY: skin care, bath & body; ACCESSORIES: implements, jewelry; COSMETICS: color, nails, hair; and WELL- NESS: organic, natural, wild crafted. Exhibitors were classified into categories reflective of "metals of antiquity" such as gold, silver, lead and mercury, among others. "The concept to break it out into these categories was to compartmentalize the show for easier access to the distributor, buyer and retailer," says Jeff Law- son, co-founder of ELEMENTs. "The end goal of each of these shows is to match the exhibitor with as many buyers as possible. As we continue to expand globally, it is important to make sure we present the most comprehensive and accessible showcase for visitors." Prominent retailers and distributors included key decision-makers from beauty retailers such as Space NK, Barneys New York, NET-A-PORTER and Saks Fifth Avenue. Celebrity/fashion manicurist/nail artist Rachel Shim was also on hand to provide complimentary manicures to attendees. Shim pointed to some hot trend ideas such as adding a sprinkling of glitter to one or two nails of choice per hand. "Feel free to change it up by adding glitter to your pinkie on one hand and your thumb and first finger on the other. Your nails will be a sure conversation piece," states Shim. Here's a review of nine standout products from the show, the only New York City edition of ELE- MENTs in 2014. Check out elements-showcase.com for future editions.
