News LIFE OF RILEY SALON SUPPLY TO DEBUT CPNA OFFICIALS REPORT RECORD GROWTH IN ATTENDEES AND EXHIBITORS Photography by Armando Sanchez and courtesy of beautypress.com Like a breath of much-needed fresh air, a new independent, professionalbeauty distribution model backed by beauty-industry executives with salon-products distributor experience—Life of Riley Salon Supply—will officially start up Sept. 16 in Florida and Georgia. Plans are to expand it to North and South Carolina by the end of 2013. And if all goes according to the business plan, it will start expanding using a franchise/licensing system. In a sector that has literally been turned upside down for years by the influence of two dominant mega-distributors, consolidation and tough economic times, the new business will no doubt provide welcome relief to emerging and mid-size salon brands seeking distribution due to the logjams they now often encounter as well as excellent opportunities for entrepreneurs who love the distribution business, want to work in it and can make a comfortable living doing so. Life of Riley relates to "living the good life" or "living an easy and pleasant life" and the business won't forget what made the industry great—the people in the salons and those calling on them, says Kelly Huether, who will officially become president and co-founder Sept. 16. Huether—who left SalonCentric as a top executive earlier this year—was at Cosmoprof North America 2013, where he had three full days of appointments. His impressive beauty career dates back to Beaches Beauty Supply in Montana. He's the past president of Ace Beauty Co. and Independent Salon Resource in Florida, former president of State Beauty Supply and RDA in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and served as senior vice president of traditional distribution at Beauty Alliance prior to the L'Oréal acquisition that created SalonCentric. Look for the new Life of Riley website at lifeofrileyss.com in mid-September. Huether can be contacted at kellyh@lifeofrileyss.com.
