MINTEL: MORE NEW DRY SHAMPOOS According to new research from Mintel Beauty & Personal Care, dry-shampoo introductions accounted for 3% of global shampoo launch activity in 2012—up from 1% in 2008. And 2013 is on track to surpass the 2012 level. About 16% of U.S. adults report some usage of a dry shampoo in the past year. "The benefits of daily shampooing continue to be questioned, as many have argued that too-frequent washing can actually strip the hair of its natural oils—creating an opportunity for these waterless shampoos to shine," says Amy Ziegler, Mintel beauty & personal-care analyst. "In addition, dry shampoo has made a serious case for convenient cleansing, as it provides the functional cleansing benefits without the wash-rinse-repeat routine and directly ties into consumers' ease-of-use expectations." Ziegler adds, "Consumers shop the haircare aisle with their individual needs in mind, preferring to buy products that directly speak to their hair type, condition and style. Dry shampoo is no different, and is selected based on the same criteria. For women, product benefits trump low price to take the top spot on the desired attribute list." 68 June 2013 | beautystorebusiness.com TAT'Z NAIL'Z MACHINE AVAILABLE TO STORES Have you ever thought about buying or leasing one of those new nail art-imaging machines for your brick and mortar's customers? If your beauty store is in the United States, you can do so now via Farmington, Utah-based Style Tech. Style Tech recently entered into an exclusive distributor deal with U.S.-based technology firm Fashion Tec USA—maker of the Tat'z Nail'z imaging system. The deal enables Style Tech to make Tat'z Nail'z available to beauty stores, beauty salons and nail salons across Utah as well as to expand the machine's national presence. Tat'z Nail'z is marketed as allowing salon professionals to print designs, logos and images on natural and acrylic nails. Using the touch screen, users are able to select from hundreds of designs or import their own designs via the USB interface or camera. Earlier this year, Tat'z Nail'z received the Best Of Show award at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Currently, Tat'z Nail'z is in use throughout nail salons in Europe, where Style Tech says it's in high demand. Style Tech is also having success in the United States. "We have demonstrated the Tat'z Nail'z technology at cosmetology schools and salons throughout Utah, and the reviews are positive," says Rob Brenchley, Style Tech CEO. A beauty store that currently doesn't offer professional nailcare services could use Tat'z Nail'z on its customers, Brenchley has told BSB. Style Tech is offering Tat'z Nail'z to purchase or a low monthly lease—making it accessible to beauty store owners, salon owners, nail techs and others. For more information, questions and the cost to purchase or the price to lease, contact Brenchley, rob@styletech.biz, 801.915.6006. ■
