MY NOTES ON TARGETED EVENTS Here's an inside view of all that went on at the company's 2013 Manufacturers' Summit and Distributor Conference. BACK IN JANUARY I ATTENDED J. WHITE & ASSOCIATES' PRIVATE Third Annual Manufacturers' Summit along with its Third Annual Distributor Conference for invited buyers and guests at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. It occurred during the same time as the Western Buying Conference at Bally's Hotel & Convention Center across The Strip and the 16 th Beauty Expo USA at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino off The Strip. (Yes, I and Jerry Lovell, our associate publisher/ advertising director, attended all three!) The one-day Manufacturers' Summit—which I've attended before—is an opportunity for J. White's manufacturers to meet as a group, strategize and hear invited guests speak. To my knowledge, J. White & Associates is the only company in the beauty arena that does this—part of its true partnerships with the manufacturers it represents. Dave Anttila of Beauty Systems Group/CosmoProf professional-only stores was the keynote speaker this year and shared a very informative presentation on succeeding in the business of full-service distribution. In another session, I was asked to give my "35,000-feet view" on the ever-changing landscape of the beauty biz—including both professional-beauty distribution as well as multiple retail channels. By all standards, the two-day Distributor Conference was J. White & Associates' most successful one to date. "We couldn't have anticipated the overwhelming response by this year's invited guests," Jeff White, president, told me a few weeks after the event. "Both distributor and retailer customers alike were blown away by the products and programs presented by our sponsoring vendor partners. Newcomers such as Control Corrective Skincare Systems, Lay/N/Go Cosmo and Mitch Stone Essentials were met with an astounding commitment rate; and veterans such as Young Nails and Norvell Skin Solutions continued to expand their leadership positions within their respective categories." The conference was packed with appointments, and customers were treated to presentations in an exquisite environment complete with food and a variety of beverages throughout the days and into the evenings. They saw many exciting opportunities, and I want to share here what I saw there. Maybe you should consider attending next year? 30 June 2013 | beautystorebusiness.com Thinkstockphoto.com; logo courtesy of J. White & Associates by Marc Birenbaum
