S tubborn knots and tangles are the bane of all hair types–so it is no wonder that detangling products are always in high demand. Not only do consumers prize gentle detangling brushes, but they also want effective styling products, such as leave-in conditioners that help reduce hair breakage and eliminate painful tugging when brushing out knots. According to Talia Tiram, who heads up business development for Ecoco Inc., these wet products condition each hair strand while sealing the cuticle, which reduces friction when using a brush or comb. "When the cuticle is sealed, the hair shaft lies flat and that accounts for a softer, shinier, frizz-free look," she says. Emphasizing these hair-healthy ingredients can go a long way toward securing the sale. "Customers want detangling products that condition without causing buildup or weighing down the hair's natural buoyancy," Tiram adds. "I think retailers can focus on products featuring both emollients and antioxidants so that the user's total hair health is addressed." Always remember to show customers real results, too.
