Whether customers prefer practical hair holders to secure today's popular ponytails or more whimsical fashion items for special occasions, hair accessories provide an irresistible form of self-expression. Drawing attention to the hair accessories offered in your store is a breeze. "Like with cosmetics, women love demonstrations and suggestions on hair accessory products before purchasing them," says Mia Kaminski, founder and CEO of Mia Beauty in Pleasant Hill, Califor- nia, which launched the popular Tonytail ponytail wrap more than 18 years ago. "Having salespeople wear the products and talk about them to customers is the best selling technique we have seen thus far in this category." While staples such as rubber hair ties and headbands are self-explanatory, Kaminski notes that a picture is worth a thousand words for more fashion-forward acces- sories and styling tools. "Images of models wearing the product printed directly on the packaging helps the consumer easily understand the end result," she says.
