18 June 2017 | beautystorebusiness.com Powerful, ergonomic and positively mind-blowing—our guide to the industry's state-of-the-art blowdryers! by Karen Wilhelmsen F or salon owners, investing in the right blowdryers is critical. The right tool can make a look as well as provide ease and comfort to the stylist. Ernie Brauchli, the president of pro beauty supply retailer Creative Beauty Concepts, recommends that professionals use dryers with a long life, powerful AC motor and ionic generator. He stresses that while many companies tout their blowdryers as having ionic technology, it's often just ionic paint rather than a generator that produces negative ions. Make sure you know the difference, as this will leave your customers with smoother, healthier results, he says. "Also, compact dryers will relieve arm and shoulder fatigue better than a lightweight dryer. Lightweight dryers usually are not as powerful, and so the extra time it takes to dry the hair cancels out the lighter weight," Brauchli says. For consumers, he recommends that people buy compact, professional dryers to replicate a salon look at home. In addition to an ionic generator, for coarse hair Brauchli recommends a powerful AC motor, while for fine hair he suggests a DC-Pro motor for lighter airflow yet comparable heat. To pair with a favorite thermal protector or oil for maximum shine and resistance against humidity, here are some of the very best professional and consumer blowdryers available.
