With so many brush options on the market, we consulted Smashbox global pro lead makeup artist Lori Taylor Davis for her tips on selecting the right ones for your store. "When choosing a brush, it's important to find out how it's put together," Davis says. "Look at the weight and length of the brush and see if the hairs are stamped or braided into the core of the brush for less hair fallout." Though some purists love natural fibers, it all boils down to the brush's intended use. "I tend to use synthetic brushes for creamy textures because it lays the product down nicely and is a great buffer. [They're ideal] for liquid/cream foundations and lipsticks," Davis recommends. "I love natural brushes when using loose powders, like eye shadow and blushes, because it blends the product seamlessly." Continued on page 36
