I can't tell you how many hours I spent scrolling through the live streams and posts on vogue.com, but it was certainly extensive. I was overjoyed by pleats, lace, crochet, full brows, scarlet lips, knotted updos, braids and more. I love the fall season, as the weather (normally) starts to cool down and our creativity starts to sprout new ideas for wardrobe and makeup looks. Like many in this industry, fash- ion week always gets me in the mood to create something. It's a time of year when we dive into our closets and makeup collections and fi nd new ways to wear our favorite shades and styles. Brands are also starting to fi nd inspiration for next season's colors, and consumers will soon want to re-create the looks they saw on the runway. So beauty stores need to be prepared for the infl ux of on-trend requests they may start to receive. Staying abreast of fashion week trends allows beauty retailers to stock up or down on certain colors and products as necessary. Personally, I get so inspired by the colors, shapes and textures of the clothing seen on the runway that I im- mediately start jotting down product ideas and colors for future Bodyography projects. This season, I was pleasantly surprised—not only by the stunning array of beautiful designs, but the beauty that hit the runway as well. This year's makeup looks were wearable, approachable and even pretty. The hair was kept more natural and textured and, like the makeup, quite attainable. I scoured the Internet for the best looks expected for Spring/Summer 2016 New York Fashion Week and will be dissecting the trends in this column across fashion, nails, hair and makeup that I think consumers will be asking for in the coming months. Let's be real, fashion week may be about celebrity sightings, parties, it-girls, etc.; but what brings everyone together is the clothing. Models, actors, bloggers, vloggers and musicians alike come together to bear witness to the fi rst sightings of what is to come for fashion. The shows themselves are full-on productions and the front row alone is as exciting as the threads making their way down the runways. The clothing seen during fashion week gener- ally falls into two columns: the "you're gorgeous, but I will never wear you in real life" column and the "you will be my staple piece this season and forever" column. This fashion week we saw both, and lucky for us, the on-trend pieces of last season still have a major infl uence on what we will be seeing next spring. This brings me to the following trend roundup in fashion, which will inspire the next makeup, hair and nail trends. THAT '70s SHOW The '70s fashion trend is not going away in 2016. Hippie-inspired ensembles dominated the runway with suede accents, raw hems, crochet separates, tie-dye, floral prints and fringe. Bohemian robes, flared trousers, crochet swimsuits and maxi lengths meant everyone was embracing '70s influences. I love that this trend is here to stay and that there are so many elements that flatter women of all ages, shapes and sizes. On a selfish note: We, California girls, can rock this trend year-round. IT'S A '90s THING Sorry to those of you who are O.V.E.R. this trend, but the '90s are back. Ditzy floral prints and print block- ing played up nicely against netting and mesh. Baggy trousers, sheer layering and straps were interesting elements seen across many designers' runways. Crop tops still graced the stage, and Madonna-esque cutouts will be seen in tops and dresses this spring. WORKING GIRL Remember the good ole days of paired suits and office separates? Well they're back. Sexy and refined suiting was seen on the runways this season, which made me very happy, as I love androgynous styling. Say "hello" to pinstripes, linen, an array of pleating—both preppy and posh—pencil skirts, blazers, contrast stitching and ladylike suit sets. A throwback to Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren was seen as well, with Americana- inspired prints and styles, including stars, stripes, and red, white and blue yacht clothing. This may be my favorite trend of all. A FEMININE TOUCH It's time to get dolled up next spring with design influ- ences such as lace, ruffles (on sleeves and necklines), chiffon, tulle and, once again, pleating. Pink and lavender were seen heavily, while lace and eyelet designs made us think of spring in the Hamptons. Lingerie-inspired pieces peeked out from under dresses and skirts; think pinafore and petticoat, less bra and underwear. STATEMENT DRESSES The biggest trend of all was statement dresses, and within that category: bare shoulders. Whether it be strapless, one shoulder, off the shoulder or cold shoul- der, we're seeing a lot more skin for spring. Statement dresses were seen with cutouts, uneven hemlines, deep V's, fringe, appliqués, layered sequins and poppy-colored floral prints. A red and burnt orange color was seen throughout every trend and is making a major statement in both fashion and beauty—but more on that later.
