Palmquist's long professional-beauty career includes working behind the chair, route sales, creating a haircare brand, owning a dis- tributorship, and many years of sales, brand building and marketing. However, while Americans clearly feel that the minimum wage should be higher, exactly how high remains a more contentious subject, reports a late July online survey by The Harris Poll. When informed that some U.S. cities have introduced measures to grow minimum-wage rates there to $15 per hour in the next few years, a six-in-10 majority of U.S. adults (59%) feel this rate is at least somewhat higher than it should be. But not everyone feels this way. While majorities of Republicans (81%) and independents (62%) feel $15 per hour is more than the minimum wage should be, only four in 10 Democrats (41%) share this perspective—slightly behind the percentage who feel that it's about right (43%). While resistance to this level of compensation likely has many causes, one that may be weighing on adults' minds is concern over their own bottom lines: Eight in 10 Americans (81%) believe that a higher minimum wage would increase costs for consumers. SPINKS IS BSG'S NEW PRESIDENT Mark Spinks—most recently the COO of Beauty Systems Group—has been promoted to president of Sally Beauty Holdings' professional-products distributorship, replacing longtime BSG president John Golliher. Golliher subsequently became BSG chairman and continued to serve as a director of parent company Sally Beauty Holdings. He took on a consulting role for two years Oct. 1. "Under John's tenure, he took BSG from a small, unprofitable business to an industry-leading organization with over $1 billion in sales," Chris Brickman, Sally Beauty Holdings president and CEO, told analysts in the SBH fiscal 2015 third quarter earnings conference call Aug. 6. "Mark will have some very big shoes to fill, but is well-qualified for the challenge." Spinks has held various leadership positions at BSG during the past 10 years. ■ Mark Spinks
