110 July 2014 | beautystorebusiness.com News Sally Beauty Supply celebrated its 50 th anniversary with a 50 Years of Beauty-themed event at its headquarters in Denton, Texas, May 14. Many Sally Beauty Supply VIPs, vendors, invited guests, and consumer and trade media—including Deborah Carver of Creative Age Publications and Marc Birenbaum of Beauty Store Business—attended. During the event, Sally Beauty Holdings chairman of the board and CEO Gary G. Winterhalter and Sally Beauty Holdings new president and COO Christian A. Brickman both spoke. (With the resignation of Tobin K. Anderson as SBS president, SBH is conducting a search to identify a replacement. Brickman [who was announced May 1 in SBH's CEO succession plan] is managing the operations of SBS until a replacement is appointed.) Also at the event were numerous SBH executives—including new SBS CMO Ashley Sheetz—as well as other SBH and Beauty Systems Group executives. In other SBH news, BSG has acquired Anchorage, Alaska-based Artic Beauty Supply, which serves all of Alaska. Royce Morton and Bruce Scotland, the principals in the business, are staying with the organization and becoming part of the BSG management team. SALLY CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF BEAUTY NY NOW LAUNCHES IMPULSE AT NY NOW NY NOW, The Market for Home + Lifestyle will debut a co-located event for retailers called IMPULSE at NY NOW during the summer edition of NY NOW, taking place Aug. 16-20 at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and the Passenger Ship Terminal Pier. Presented alongside NY NOW's NEW! "This is the first of many exciting synergies resulting from Emerald Expositions' recent acqui- sition of NY NOW and GLM," says Christopher McCabe, executive vice president of Emerald Expositions. "IMPULSE at NY NOW is a reimagining and repositioning of our ASD New York Wholesale Expo as an extension of NY NOW, the nation's premier marketplace for design-driven home and lifestyle merchandise. By running concurrently with the NY NOW's NEW! Collection, we can increase the number and type of resources presented to NY NOW attendees and continue to provide Emerald Expositions' ASD exhibitors with new market opportunities." IMPULSE at NY NOW's show hours will mirror NY NOW, running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, except on the last day when the show will close at 5 p.m. One badge will grant access to all exhibits. NY NOW's four comprehensive collections—HOME, LIFESTYLE, HANDMADE and NEW!—will encompass 100,000 products in more than 400 product categories. The event, which includes natural beauty products, will take place Sept. 17-20 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore. "Following a record-breaking event in California last month, Natural Products Expo East will showcase more new exhibitors and more new products than ever before," said Adam Andersen, show director for Natural Products Expos, in April. "The [NPEE] show floor is nearly sold out and reception to our conference program is tremendous. With the focus on healthier lifestyles, we are looking forward to celebrating the natural, organic and healthy products industry this fall." Doug Tompkins, founder of The Foundation for Deep Ecology, will keynote the event. In 1964, he founded The North Face, and later co-founded Esprit. The Natural Products Expo East education themes include "Big Data," "Digital Strategies" and "Women in Leadership." Education sessions include "Big Data: The Truth About the Health & Wellness Shopper" and "Special Diets: Gluten-Free." The September event will also offer many learning and networking programs, including the Retailer Workshop and the Retail Store Tour. Registration is free for qualified buyers, brokers and distributors until Aug. 8. For more information, visit expoeast.com or call 866.458.4935 (United States only), 303.390.1776.
