10 June 2014 | beautystorebusiness.com A five-day schedule of educational and social programming supplemented market activities and played host to more than 40 educational sessions, industry social events and awards such as the Personal Care + Wellness Best New Products Awards. The seminars covered topics such as design and color trends, social media and online marketing, merchandising and retail strategies and importing. According to Pam Danziger, president and founder of the market-research firm Unity Marketing in Stevens, Penn- sylvania, "The gift category is popular with consumers who earn more than $100,000 annually. They are looking for gifts that are special and of an experien- tial quality." As for industry trends, the scent of tobacco is gaining popularity. Rupal Bhinda, president of New York City-based Ebb & Flow NYC offers a Tobacco Flower Soap inspired by the scent. "It provides remembrance of peo- ple's childhoods when their fathers or grandfathers used to smoke their pipes and cigars. The memories are old, giv- ing the scent a sophisticated revival." Other companies such as Seattle-based West Third Brand have also introduced tobacco scents. Its collection includes Tobacco 1812, Voyage d'Tabac and Marche' de Tabac. As for ingredients, Jessica Gulati, founder of San Diego-based Lotus Love Beauty, says that customers are starting to inquire whether the palm oil used in the company's soaps are RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil)-certified. There's also interest in goat's milk. Although Dionis— launched from a farm in Virginia—has been offering a goat's milk collection since 1982, other manufacturers are now following suit. Artistically packaged, responsibly sourced, fragrant and quite captivating, here's an array of our 11 top picks from the show floor. Cologne Established in 1869 near the romantic, artistic city of Venice, Italy, Acca Kappa was initially renowned for its collection of top-notch hairbrushes and accessories. This family-run business spans several generations and the company's current president, Elisa Gera, is a descendent of the original founder, Hermann Krull. In the late 1980s, Gera re-envisioned the brand and expanded Acca Kappa with a new focus on top-notch raw materials, simplicity in design and respect for the environment. Presenting a blend of citrusy notes from the essential oils of refreshing lemon and bergamot, Acca Kappa's White Moss Eau de Cologne, Muschio Bianco is also infused with Mediterranean notes such as lavender and juniper. Scented wood and balsamic berries complete this unisex fragrance. In 1990, the company was commissioned by executives at The Lanes- borough hotel in London to craft stellar bath products for its elite guests. The company's owners at the time, Caroline Rose Hunt and Vivian Young, teamed up with a French per- fumer and English toiletry house. Together, they researched archival recipes that date back to 1677. This research led to the debut of Lady Primrose's signature scent, Tryst, and later to its Royal Extract fragrance. In 2006, Lady Primrose's president Shirley Pieratt and vice president of sales Deby Fowler purchased the company. Their vision was to continue the legacy of Lady Prim- rose. Scent aficionados will certainly be captivated by the vibrant hues of blue and the refreshing fragrance of the Turqesa Candle. It features a fusion of crisp, clean citrus, green tea, cedar woods and is hand poured to perfection. It's packaged in a vibrant turquoise and chocolate gift box. t d t il i RP : $22 T h e L a t e s t E x c i t i n g M u s t - H a v e s f r o m N Y N O W . i n d d 1 0 The Latest Exciting Must-Haves from NY NOW.indd 10 5 / 2 / 1 4 1 0 : 5 5 A M 5/2/14 10:55 AM
