What were your thoughts when you won the 2013 Discover Beauty Award for the collection at Cosmoprof North America last July? Well, it was unexpected. There were so many good brands there, and when I heard the very few letters of my brand as they were announcing it, I just couldn't believe they were calling my name. It meant so many things, not just for me but for my team, the people who work so hard at SKIN&CO; and the buyers and the press who decided that SKIN&CO; deserved it. Those retailers who voted for us are the same ones who decided that it was worth investing shelving space or airtime for this brand. It wasn't just a vote for a brand, but a vote of confidence. Has the collection been entered into any other beauty competitions? We entered the line into the CEW Awards as Best Indie Brand this year, and we hope for the best. You launched the Truffle Therapy line at NewBeauty at Fred Segal in Santa Monica, California, last December. What was the feedback from those who tried the products, and how did that debut help spread the word about the collection? It was a great debut! We had a beauty party with mini facials and truffle maca- roons. Denise Richards stopped by, and I was thrilled! It ended up in OK! maga- zine. The customers loved the products, and I was particularly excited because we were able to bring all of our exist- ing customers from the surrounding ZIP codes into the store for mini facials and champagne. They now have a local store to support and shop. What packaging options do you have available for the line (i.e., retail sizes, gift packs, sample sizes, etc.)? SKIN&CO; is essentially a retail line. Aside from retail sizes, we offer gift and sea- sonal packs, sample sizes, deluxe sizes, travel sizes and anything you can use to let SKIN&CO; make your day better. What inspired you to bring the company to America in 2010? What was that process like? I was already based in New York and for me it was a natural choice to start here. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. Right? I started with a very small office. There were two of us working in it—myself and Pina, my designer. We slowly expanded, and I had some very genuine mentors. Why do you believe the products have become so popular here in the United States, being featured in major magazines and news- papers, chosen five times as Oprah favorites, and named one of the fastest-growing private companies in America in the INC. 5000 list? I think I made the right choices, and my team and I worked hard, very hard.
